Dr. Diana Süsser is a Senior Expert in Energy Policies and Transition Aspects at the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy (IEECP). Her work focuses on just transitions, community energy, energy poverty, and energy efficiency policies. She is deeply committed to fostering a just and sustainable transition towards a decarbonised energy system in Europe.
Diana coordinates Phase II of the IEA UsersTCP Task on Public Engagement for Energy Infrastructure. She contributes to projects such as the European Commission’s DG ENER Citizen-led Renovation initiative, the LIFE projects RENOVERYT and ASSERT on tackling energy poverty, and the project ENSMOV Plus on advancing energy efficiency policies. Diana has coordinated and led the stakeholder engagement in several projects, including the EU LIFE project JUSTice in transition and EMpowerment against energy poverty (JUSTEM).
Alongside her role at IEECP, Diana serves as an Ambassador for the Just Transition Platform Working Group on Stakeholder Engagement, as Monitoring Expert for Swiss Energy Research for the Energy Transition (SWEET) of the Swiss Federal Office for Energy, and as Member and Mentor of the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET). She is also a Lecturer and Board Member for the NGO Lecturers Without Borders, and a Climate-KIC Alumni.
Before joining IEECP, Diana worked on energy research and climate innovation initiatives at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), the Israel Public Policy Institute (IPPI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), collaborating closely with policymakers, businesses, and civil society organisations.
Diana holds a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Oldenburg and Kingston University London, a Master of Science in Integrated Climate Science from the University of Hamburg, and a PhD from the University of Hamburg on the social and geographical dimensions of the local energy transition. During her doctoral studies, she was a research assistant in the Regional Climate Change (REKLIM) project at the Helmholtz Centre Hereon.
