Energy efficiency business models
Smart building and technologies

Project:

FEDARENE is the European association of regional and local energy agencies, counting with 80 members from 24 EU member states and dedicated to planning and promoting the sustainable energy 2030 targets and climate neutrality for 2050. Escan energy consulting had the opportunity to share the results of InEExS project to over 70 senior sustainable energy experts from these energy agencies in an  event organized side by side with the FEDARENE General Assembly on 27th June 2024 (Protaras, Cyprus). The aim was double, on the one hand to disseminate the project results to key organizations and on the other hand to support potential replicators in understanding the project benefits.

The core concept of InEExS is the development of innovative energy efficiency services which also incorporate Blockchain, integrating different sectors and organizations and testing the business models in the field to assess their viability. InEExS  improves  the implementation  of  Energy  Efficiency Directive (EED) Article 7 as supports Obligated Parties to provide integrated service  offers  that  enable  energy savings. The great novelty is the use of a common blockchain platform that, by means of the tokenization of energy data (input) and energy efficiency results (output), allows to provide with valuable information both to companies and users on their energy usage.

The innovative energy efficiency services modelled and tested in InEExS, which will be ready for replication in 2025 are related to:

  • Innovative energy contracts on the performance achieved by tenants for optimizing the self-consumption of solar power facilitated by digital solutions;
  • Improved self-consumption of PV in energy cooperatives within energy community users, implementing incentive mechanism through messages and tokens;
  • Energy efficiency and flexibility services for legacy natural gas boilers through a cost-effective IoT controller;
  • Smart energy management for EV chargers and digitalizing  B2B2C offering to customers with smart charging of EVs;
  • Concept of a Decentralised Energy Efficiency Power Plant (DEEPP).
