The 13th International Energy Economics Conference, organised by the Technical University of Vienna (TU Wien), took place mid-February 2023, focused this year on the future of the energy markets in Europe against the background of new geopolitical imbalances. newTRENDs work was presented at the event with a poster and a short video introducing its key elements.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine in the spring of 2022 and the resulting war shook Europe to its very foundations. This calls into question the energy supply it believed to be secure. The current situation represents the beginning of a process of new long-term geopolitical equilibriums.
Along with this background, IEWT 2023 was organised to discuss the recent disruptions in the European energy system, the associated distortions in the market and the necessary regulatory interventions. What is the impact on the originally envisaged long-term paths of decarbonization and energy system transformation?
In this conference, Fraunhofer ISI, represented by Thurid Lotz, presented a research poster for the session “Critical raw materials and circular economy (Kreislaufwirtschaft und Rohstoffe)” session, and a video introducing the key project aspects focusing on the poster elements. The poster was awarded with “best poster” award. It shows the developed energy demand modeling approach and selected results on the contribution of a circular economy for buildings to industrial decarbonisation.
