The coolest cold from the cleanest heat – How can industries turn excess heat to cooling, and more witchcraft!

TEAMS Webinar - May 26, 2025

Discover, in this kick-off webinar, how the RE-WITCH project will deliver cost-competitive, game-changing solutions in the field of sustainable industrial cooling and heating, through sorption processes.

The session aims at demonstrating how 26 partners from across Europe are developing advanced thermally-driven industrial cooling technologies based on ADsorption and ABsorption processes, driven by an optimized mix of low-grade waste heat and renewable sources. It will present and discuss the advancement of the project after 18 months of preparation and implementation. The session is highly relevant in a moment when Europe’s focus is increasingly on competitiveness and the need for energy security and independence, through innovation: the solutions developed and tested in the project will demonstrate how we can, with existing resources (waste heat and RES), decarbonise the economy.  Such solutions will be demonstrated in 4 demo sites (in Italy, Greece, Spain and Poland) encompassing food and beverage, paper sectors as well as industrial sectors where heat-to-cold solutions are not yet widely explored (bio-refinery).

The project, and this session presenting the first steps it took, can lead various industries to unlock the combined potential of low-grade waste and renewable heat use in industries, with the integration of heat-to-cold technologies into relevant EU policies.

Expected audience: Industries, policy makers, research.
