About IEECP
The Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy (IEECP) is an independent, non-profit research foundation working at the intersection of energy efficiency, climate policy, and socio-economic transition. IEECP supports EU institutions, national authorities, businesses, and industry through applied research, policy analysis, and implementation-oriented EU-funded projects.
Position
IEECP is seeking an Expert in Energy Efficiency in Businesses and Industry to contribute to the design, implementation, and delivery of EU-funded projects and policy-oriented research in the Netherlands.
The role is suited for a mid-level professional with solid experience in energy efficiency, business and industrial contexts, and EU project work, who is ready to take responsibility for technical tasks, stakeholder engagement, project administration and high-quality deliverables. The Expert will work closely with senior and junior experts, while independently managing assigned tasks and outputs.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct applied research and analysis on energy efficiency and decarbonisation in business and industry.
- Analyse EU energy and climate policies relevant to businesses, industry, and SMEs, including energy efficiency, audits, financing instruments, and decarbonisation pathways.
- Contribute to the development of methodologies, analytical frameworks, and tools used in EU-funded projects.
- Draft high-quality technical reports, policy briefs, guidance documents, and project deliverables in line with EU requirements.
- Translate technical and policy findings into clear, actionable insights for non-academic audiences.
- Engage with businesses, industrial actors, SMEs, policymakers, and expert stakeholders through interviews, workshops, trainings, and project events in the Netherlands and in other countries.
- Take responsibility to contribute to specific EU-funded projects (Horizon Europe, LIFE CET).
- Coordinate with project partners to ensure timely, coherent, and high-quality outputs.
- Represent IEECP in project meeting and discussions.
Professional profile
- University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in energy, engineering, economics, environmental sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in energy efficiency, business and industrial energy systems, energy policy, or applied research.
- Demonstrated experience working on EU-funded projects or comparable international research and implementation projects.
- Strong understanding of EU energy policy framework relevant to industry and SMEs.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks with limited supervision.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, with experience producing structured technical and policy deliverables.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary, international teams.
- Willingness to travel within Europe as required by project activities.
Employment Conditions
- Contract: Full-time, fixed-term (1 year), with potential extension subject to performance and project funding.
- Starting date: From Mid-February to latest end of March 2026.
- Working mode: Remote/home-based in the Netherlands, with occasional travels across EU Member States.
- Location: The Netherlands.
- Holidays: 30 days annual leave.
- Flexible contract that can be adapted to freelance possibilities if the candidate resides outside the Netherlands. The pay rates will be adapted pro rata to the average salary position of each country. In that case the candidate will invoice services and no salary will be provided as such.
Salary range
The salary consists of:
- 3,500 – 5,500 € gross monthly (the amount to be determined based on the experience).
- 8% holiday pay.
- 100 € monthly for own pension scheme.
- Office location upon request for co-working with colleagues.
- Provision of equipment.
