Finding a qualified and trustworthy professional can be a real barrier for homeowners when beginning the home renovation process. One of the main goals of HORIS is to remove this barrier and provide homeowners with a network of renovation professionals who have been screened by a thorough quality assessment process. Helping homeowners find the right professionals can build trust for greater confidence and informed decision-making, ensuring a smooth process from beginning to end.

To ensure that the home renovation providers meet ideal conditions for a high-quality service, HORIS partner Bureau Veritas gathered key information from its three pilot countries – Portugal, Spain and Italy on national legislation, policies, and regulatory requirements relevant to the home renovation sector.

The quality assessment scheme subsequently developed, covers a wide range of home renovation services, including:

  • Installation of space heating and cooling systems
  • Installation of domestic hot water preparation systems
  • Installation of ventilation systems
  • Installation of efficient household appliances
  • Interventions aimed at water efficiency
  • Installation of solar photovoltaic and thermal systems
  • Installation of lighting systems
  • Building automation and control systems
  • Installation of  a home charging station
  • Installation of green infrastructures
  • Application of thermal insulation
  • Replacement of windows
  • Energy Certification
  • Maintenance and inspection of technical systems

A key part of the quality assessment process was to develop checklists that identify the obligations and technical requirements that companies must comply with to provide quality service to consumers.

The principal criteria to select the most qualified service providers include:

By establishing a network of reliable home renovation providers to assist consumers in improving the energy efficiency of their homes, HORIS will contribute to meeting the requirements set out in European legislation such as the EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) resulting in more comfortable homes for citizens in Europe.
